Project Needlemouse = 2D Sonic?!
This teaser trailer just surfaced for what seems to be the one thing that will revitalize my love for the Sonic the Hedgehog series. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but anybody that loves the original Sonic games, knows that once it went into the third dimension, it lost something. Once Sonic went 3-D it seemed like the speed just didn’t translate as well, and we were left with clunky controls and bad level design, something the originals had done so well. There is a lot of pressure on the team, seeing as fans have been asking for a return to Sonic’s roots for ages, and now that’s its finally tangible, it is scary to think of how much it could be screwed up. However, there is plenty of time to speculate, so I will keep optimistic and hope for the best. Mega Man 9 brought me back to my love for that series, let’s hope this game does the same.
From the start of the teaser, when you see and hear the classic SEGA logo, the nostalgia hits you in the face like a brick. Hearing that classic SEGA logo and the ring sound effects really make you remember the good old days on the Genesis. My favorite part of the teaser is when you see the words, “Built from the ground up”, which leads me to believe that this will be a labor of love and the team will put a lot of effort in to it. While “Project Needlemouse” is just a working title, it is most certainly going to be a return to what the fans want to see…a GOOD, old-fashioned Sonic title. In the meantime, I think this is the perfect tim for old and new fans alike to pick up Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection (360/PS3), to see what you are in for when this new game is released in 2010.
