Top 20 TV Series on Hulu – Part One

Hulu launched last year, and with it came the modernization of watching TV shows online. No more having to go to each individual network’s site, or having to pay for services like Netflix. In fact, Hulu offers a better selection than Netflix when it comes to new episodes. Within a week after airing, a new episode is on Hulu ready to be watched. Features like “Subscribe to Series” make keeping up with your favorite shows a breeze. In addition to its service as a back up DVR, Hulu has some full seasons available to watch at any time. Here are some of our favorites:

Lost
The First Season

Next year Lost will start its final season. It’s hard to go back and look at the first season. Not because it was bad, but because it was so damn simple compared to the later seasons. If you’re willing to dive in now, more power to ya, but just be aware: there will be nosebleeds. And I’m not just talking about the characters.

key art buffy the vampire slayer Top 20 TV Series on Hulu Part One

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The First Three Seasons

Sure, the first season was a little too campy for its own good, but there’s little doubt as to why the show has achieved the cult following it has now. The show was witty, sharp, and smart. Check out the first three seasons to see Buffy’s high school years. Talk about hell.

Arrested Development
All Three Seasons

Some people say that Arrested Development is the greatest sitcom of all time. Those people would be right. That is no matter of opinion; it is fact. Follow the Bluth family on their far too short journey, and prepare yourself for then movie. No touching.

Firefly
The First (and only) Season

Firefly was never given a fair shot on TV, luckily for you Fox is attempting to make amends by allowing you to watch every episode for free. The show is Joss Whedon at his best.

Kings
The First (and only) Season

We’re big fans of Kings here at Couch Campus, and we’re assuming the reason you aren’t is because you never gave it a chance. Now here’s the part where I rant and rave about how you’re part of the problem before spitting on your ancestors’ graves, but I’ve already done thattwice. So here’s your chance to redeem yourself: watch.

Journeyman
The First (and only) Season

Time travel has always been an instant “hellz yeah” for me, and none did it better than Journeyman. Not only did it feature a top notch cast and writing, but it did a brilliant job of combining a week-to-week mystery with a larger storyline.

key art the riches Top 20 TV Series on Hulu Part One

The Riches
Both Seasons

The second season dipped a bit in terms of quality, but at its best, The Riches was damn good. Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver were enough reason to watch the show even without considering that it had one of the most original plots on TV.

dead like me Top 20 TV Series on Hulu Part One

Dead Like Me
Both Seasons

Dead Like Me is a quirky dramadey about a squad of grim reapers that must take the souls of people before they die. Mandy Patinkin can be seen here kicking ass.

Studio 60 Cast 730208 Top 20 TV Series on Hulu Part One

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
The First (and only) Season

Aaron Sorkin left The West Wing after season four, and proceeded to do absolutely nothing for the next three years. I don’t blame him though; he wrote almost 90 episodes of the show in those four seasons. In 2006 he returned to create Studio 60, which followed an All-Star cast as they ran a “Saturday Night Live” type show. This was the same year, and on the same network, that 30 Rock premiered. The fact that someone green-light both shows was amazing enough; the chances of both being picked up were slim. So who would win? The one with the huge names attached and a huge advertising budget, or the one with that chick from Weekend Update? Studio 60 may have lost this one, and it may not even be Sorkin’s best work, but it is still worth watching.

Rockford files 759850 Top 20 TV Series on Hulu Part One

The Rockford Files
The First Three Seasons

There have been many Private Eye shows over the years, but few stand out as much as Jim Rockford. The show still holds its own today as the charm of James Garner and the sharp writing gave the show character that most P.I. shows only dream of. Plus it features a bad ass theme song that made it to #11 on the Billboard charts.

Hulu can be used for free by anyone with a computer and Internet access. There are also some programs which allow you to watch Hulu shows on your PS3 or 360. Other than that, you are unfortunately stuck to using your PC to watch. Hopefully there will be more (free) support to assist in watching on your TV as it should be.

Check back next week for part two of the Top 20 TV Series on Hulu.
