Shinji Mikami’s Project Zwei to be revealed April 19th

Shinji Mikami’s studio Tango Gameworks is ready to unveil codename “Zwei” and we’ll finally get to see what the game looks like in a teaser trailer on April 19th. Project Zwei is said to be a “pure survival-horror experience … that pushes the limits of fear and exhilaration.”  Sadly, Mikami said that this will be last game that he directs.

Man am I excited. Mikami’s genius cannot be denied and we haven’t had a real survival-horror game on consoles in a long time. Some could say the decline of survival-horror began with Resident Evil 4. Having played RE4 at least 15 times across various platforms, it’s really just a fun action game for me at this point. But personally, it was definitely survival-horror the first time I played it. Conserving ammo was an issue and it gave me a true feeling of isolation. I was 14 and the night was middle-aged when saw my first regenerator. I dreaded going through the laboratory in my first couple playthroughs. Regenerators eat bullets and grenades almost like they’re nothing (I didn’t figure out the strength of the thermal scope ’til many playthroughs later). They made me feel helpless, in a good way- not through poor game mechanics, but through a real horror experience.

Anyways, I could talk about Resident Evil all day, but I’m gonna cut myself short for now and leave that talk for a different article. Here, you can view what concept art has been released for Project Zwei thus far.
